July to September Updated 9 Oct 2026

These Raksha Bandhan wishes are written for everyone who ties a rakhi or wears one: brothers, sisters, cousins and the friends who became family along the way. Each wish is short enough for WhatsApp and personal enough to sound like you wrote it.

Pick a line for your brother or sister, copy it, and add one memory only the two of you share. Below you will also find Rakhi wishes in Hindi and Marathi, polite wishes for colleagues and clients, and a few longer messages for the card that travels with your rakhi by post.

Longer Raksha Bandhan messages

  • Dear brother, I still remember the first rakhi I tied on your wrist, crooked and covered in glitter, and how you wore it for a whole month. We have grown up, moved cities and changed phone numbers, but that feeling has not changed at all. Thank you for being my safe place. Happy Raksha Bandhan.

    WhatsApp
  • To my sister: this year I could not be there for the tilak and the thali, and I miss it more than I expected. Your rakhi is on my wrist and your voice was the first call I made this morning. Save me a piece of barfi, I will collect it in person soon.

    WhatsApp
  • Every year this day turns our house into a festival of thalis, photos and old jokes, thanks to the noisy, hungry, wonderful crowd of cousins I grew up with. However far life takes us, I hope we always find our way back to the same dining table. Happy Raksha Bandhan to all of you.

    WhatsApp
  • Bhaiya and Didi, you were the first people who made me feel protected, long before I understood the word. Today I want to return the promise. Whatever comes next, you will never stand alone. Happy Raksha Bandhan.

About Raksha Bandhan

Raksha Bandhan, often simply called Rakhi, celebrates the bond between brothers and sisters. It falls on the full moon day of the Hindu month of Shravan, which is why many people also call it Rakhi Purnima.

In many homes, a sister prepares a thali with roli, rice, a diya and sweets. She applies a tilak on her brother's forehead, ties a rakhi on his wrist and feeds him a sweet. The brother gives a gift and promises to stand by her. Today many families also tie rakhis between sisters, cousins and close friends, and siblings who live apart send rakhis by post.

In Maharashtra and along the western coast, the same full moon is also marked as Narali Purnima, when fishing communities offer coconuts to the sea at the start of the fishing season.

Tips for sending your wishes

  • If your rakhi is going by post, send it at least a week early and save your written wish for the morning of the festival.
  • Add one childhood detail, such as a nickname or an old fight over the window seat, to turn any wish here into a personal one.
  • For a brother or sister abroad, check their time zone so your Rakhi message lands in their morning rather than at midnight.
