Diwali Wishes in Marathi
These Diwali wishes in Marathi carry the flavour of a Maharashtrian Diwali: faral boxes passed between neighbours, an akash kandil swaying at the door, children building a killa in the courtyard. Use them for family, friends, colleagues and customers, or for your husband or wife on Diwali Padwa.
Every wish is written in natural, everyday Marathi in Devanagari, not translated from English. There are short lines for a status, rhyming two-liners and a few longer messages for cards. Copy one as it is, or add a name at the start before sending.

About Diwali
Diwali, or Deepavali, is one of the most loved festivals in Maharashtra and is celebrated over several days in October or November. It marks the triumph of light over darkness, and in many Marathi homes it begins with Vasubaras and Dhanteras before moving to Narak Chaturdashi, Lakshmi Puja, Diwali Padwa and Bhaubeej.
In many homes the day of Narak Chaturdashi starts before dawn with abhyanga snan, a bath with fragrant utane, followed by firecrackers and faral. Families prepare faral such as chakli, karanji, shankarpali, anarse and ladoo weeks in advance, hang an akash kandil at the door, draw rangoli and light panatya. Children often build a small clay killa in the courtyard.
On Diwali Padwa, wives do aukshan of their husbands, who give a gift in return, and many traders begin new account books. Bhaubeej celebrates the bond between brothers and sisters.
Tips for sending your wishes
- Send faral and family wishes in the early morning of Narak Chaturdashi or Lakshmi Puja, when most Marathi homes are already awake and celebrating.
- Keep the Padwa wishes for your husband or wife for the Padwa day itself, ideally with the gift or after the aukshan.
- For older relatives, the formal forms such as आपणास and सहपरिवार sound more respectful than casual lines.
