Longer Navratri messages

  • Every Navratri takes me back to the colony ground, the strings of lights, the dhol starting late and the circle growing bigger every hour. Those nights taught me how good it feels to move in step with a hundred strangers. Wishing you that same joy this year. Happy Navratri.

    WhatsApp
  • Mummy and Papa, thank you for the nine days of early mornings, careful fasting meals and the lamp you never let go out. Now that I live away, I understand how much effort hides behind every festival. This Navratri I will light a lamp here too, just the way you do.

    WhatsApp
  • To my garba gang: nine nights, four new outfits each, and not a single night where we left before the music ended. Let's do it again this year, louder and longer. Happy Navratri to the best dance partners anyone could ask for.

    WhatsApp
  • Navratri is a reminder that new beginnings can be colourful. As the lamps are lit and the dhol plays on, may you find the courage to start something you have been putting off. Wishing you nine days of light and a lifetime of good choices.

About Navratri

Navratri means "nine nights" and is a Hindu festival dedicated to the nine forms of the goddess Durga. It is celebrated twice a year: Chaitra Navratri in spring and Sharad Navratri in autumn. The autumn festival is the most widely celebrated and is followed by Dussehra, also called Vijayadashami.

In many homes, the festival begins with ghatasthapana, the setting up of a kalash, and a lamp is kept burning through the nine days. Many people fast or eat special fasting food, wear a different colour each day and, in some regions, honour young girls with kanya pujan.

Celebrations differ by region: garba and dandiya nights in Gujarat, Durga Puja in West Bengal, Golu doll displays in the south, and bhondla songs in Maharashtra.

Tips for sending your wishes

  • Send your wish on the evening of the first day, before people leave for garba and stop checking their phones.
  • If you know the colour of the day, mention it in your wish or match it in your image for a thoughtful touch.
  • For Chaitra Navratri, choose the calmer family wishes, since that festival is marked more quietly at home than with garba nights.

Questions people ask

What is a good short Navratri wish?

A short wish works best before a busy garba night. Try "Nine nights, nine colours, one happy heart. Happy Navratri."

How do I wish Navratri in Hindi?

The standard greeting is "नवरात्रि की हार्दिक शुभकामनाएं". A friendlier option is "गरबा की ताल, डांडिया की खनक, आपको नवरात्रि की बधाई."

How do I wish Navratri in Marathi?

Say "नवरात्रोत्सवाच्या हार्दिक शुभेच्छा". For friends, "नऊ रंग, नऊ रात्री आणि गरब्याचा ठेका, नवरात्रीच्या खूप शुभेच्छा" sounds natural and festive.

Can I send the same wishes for Chaitra Navratri?

Yes, most wishes on this page suit both Chaitra and Sharad Navratri. For Chaitra Navratri, the family and Hindi wishes fit best, since garba nights are mainly an autumn tradition.

What should I send on the second day of Navratri?

You can send a fresh wish each day rather than repeating the first one. A line like "May each night of Navratri bring a new reason to smile" works for any day of the festival.
