Diwali Wishes

October to December Updated 9 Oct 2026

These Diwali wishes are written the way people actually send them: a quick line on WhatsApp before the evening puja, a longer note for parents in another city, a cheeky text to the friend who always grabs the last kaju katli. You will find short wishes, messages for family, friends, your partner and colleagues, plus wishes in Hindi and Marathi.

Every wish here is original, so you can copy it, change a word or two, and send it without it looking like the same forward everyone received five minutes earlier. Pick one that sounds like you and add a name at the start.

Long Diwali messages

  • Diwali always takes me back to our old house: the smell of fresh paint, the rangoli Ma started at dawn, the way we all crowded onto the terrace when the sky lit up. Wherever we are now, those evenings still feel like home. I hope this Diwali gives you a few new memories just as warm. Happy Diwali to you and everyone you love.

    WhatsApp
  • This year asked a lot of all of us, so this Diwali I am wishing you something simple. A slow morning, a full plate and a quiet hour with the people who matter most. And one lamp that keeps burning long after the crackers have gone quiet.

    WhatsApp
  • Dear friend, thank you for being the person I call first with good news and bad. You have brightened more ordinary days than any festival could. May your home be full of light, your sweet box full of kaju katli, and your heart full of the kindness you give everyone else. Shubh Deepavali.

    WhatsApp
  • To our team and partners: thank you for the late nights, the quick fixes and the patience that carried us through this year. As we light diyas at home, we carry that same spirit into the year ahead. Wishing you and your families a bright and peaceful Diwali.

About Diwali

Diwali, also called Deepavali, is the festival of lights and one of the most widely celebrated festivals in India. It marks the victory of light over darkness and good over evil, and for many business families it also marks the start of a new financial year. The main day falls on a new moon night in October or November.

Celebrations usually run over five days, from Dhanteras through Choti Diwali, the main Lakshmi Puja night, Govardhan Puja or Padwa, and Bhai Dooj. In many homes people clean and paint the house, draw rangoli at the door, light clay diyas, exchange sweets and dry fruits, wear new clothes and visit relatives.

Customs vary by region. In Maharashtra families prepare faral such as chakli and karanji, in Gujarat the day after Diwali is celebrated as the new year, and in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka the festival is widely known as Deepavali.

Tips for sending your wishes

  • Send your Diwali wishes in the morning of the main day, because most people are busy with puja, lamps and visitors by evening.
  • When wishing clients, add your name and company to a short message so it does not get lost among dozens of forwarded images.
  • For grandparents and elders, a call or voice note with a Hindi or Marathi wish feels far more personal than a forward.

Questions people ask

When is Diwali in 2026?

Diwali in 2026 falls on 8 November 2026, as per the central government holiday list. Many families start sending wishes a couple of days earlier, from Dhanteras.

What is a good short Diwali wish?

A good short wish is warm, specific and easy to read on a phone. For example: Diya by diya, may your year fill with light. You can find nine more in the short wishes section above.

Is Deepavali the same as Diwali?

Yes. Deepavali is the older name and means a row of lamps, while Diwali is the shortened form used across North India. In Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and other southern states, people usually say Happy Deepavali.

How can I make my Diwali wishes in English sound unique?

Add a small personal detail, such as a sweet your friend loves or a memory from a past Diwali. Wishes that mention real things like the terrace, the rangoli or the cards night feel far more personal than general lines about joy and success.

How do I wish Diwali in Marathi?

The simplest Marathi greeting is दिवाळीच्या हार्दिक शुभेच्छा, which means heartfelt Diwali wishes. For something warmer, try a line from our Marathi section, or see the full page of Diwali wishes in Marathi.
