About Guru Purnima
Guru Purnima is observed on the full moon day of the month of Ashadha, which usually falls in June or July. It is a day to honour teachers, mentors and spiritual guides. Many Hindus also call it Vyasa Purnima, in honour of the sage Vyasa, while Buddhists and Jains mark the same full moon in their own traditions.
In many schools students give flowers or cards to their teachers, and music and dance schools often hold programmes where students perform for their gurus. In many homes people visit elders or teachers to seek their blessings, and ashrams hold special gatherings.
In Maharashtra it is widely known as Gurupournima, and in Nepal the day is also observed as Teachers' Day.
